Welcome to Erasmus Alumni Jena
Erasmus Alumni is part of the International Erasmus Network and our local branch was founded in 1996. At that time business students who returned from their exchange year abroad discovered that there is no organisation to look after exchange students in Jena, and so they decided to set up such an organisation in conjunction with the chair for Economic and Social History.
In the meantime, Erasmus Alumni Jena has grown and is now open to all foreign students from all departments and programmes, and everyone is invited to take part in our activities.
The name of the programme is derived from the humanist and theologian Erasmus of Rotterdam (1465-1536), who fought against dogmatism in his own time and tried to further mutual understanding and exchange of ideas and also travelled widely across Europe.
It is our aim to help further these goals also by helping the University of Jena and all students from abroad to get in touch with each other, meet other people and share ideas.
Exchange students help bring new ideas into teaching and learning and thus enrich cultural life in Jena. Science and Arts gain a lot if there is an atmosphere of mutual understanding and learning on the campus, and quite often people make friends and stay friends for longer than a semester only.
The greatest advantage knowledge and learning can have are happy students who enjoy their time abroad.
Our doors are open to participate to exchange-students from abroad as well as to students from The University of Jena, who would like to go abroad and want to gain some insights, or just want to participate in our team.
